Bluecoat House, Saw Close, Bath BA1 1EY (Launching January)

My husband, Andy, has a cousin who lives in beautiful Clifton. She told us that this part of Bristol would love a Thai restaurant like ours. So we put one in! We really enjoyed turning what was a square box into ‘a feast for the eyes’ as someone put it.

We hope you enjoy Giggling Squid, and feel at home in our funny, quirky little restaurants – well some of them are not so little now, but our approach is still the same. We love to hear from our guests so please feel free to drop us a line.

Most of our Asian-inspired menu is under 500 calories and packed with vitamins, fibre & protein, a third is plant-based and the vast majority costs under £6. But it’s still delicious & fast. We often give away free lunch to loyal customers kept waiting more than 90 seconds.

You want less meat and we hear you, fine by us; the Japanese were almost completely vegetarian for a thousand years and our menu is already 30% plant based. The challenge is to make plant-based food amazing. We cracked the  vegetable dumplings on version no.86 (and still tasted a bit like a shredded compost heap). But on July 28 at 3.36 pm we may have cracked it with version no. 87 including a hint of authentic sambal from Korea that tied the taste and texture together. Miso’easy, paradise’rice, i’thai noodles, and veggie maki rolls with fresh mint are part of our plant-based breakthroughs. More to come as we aim for 40% vegan.

Half an hour before closing each store holds an itsu sale – all sushi and salad boxes are half price.

We’ve teamed up with THIS ISN’T CHICKEN to launch our first completely vegan menu. Check out our new plant based dishes from healthy starters and salads, to hangover curing soups, wok-fried noodles and mind-blowing curries. All of our new vegan dishes are also gluten free, including new ‘prawn-less’ crackers! See HERE.

Pho [ pronounced fuh] is the Vietnamese national dish; an aromatic, nutritious and delicious rice noodle soup served with a side plate of fresh herbs to add as you please.

Find us on the corner of Clare Street and St Stephen Street inside the beautiful bathstone facade of Clare Street House. With around 70 covers the dining space has high ceilings, large windows and huge wicker lights to create a cosy atmosphere. Pho To Go and eat-in available, as well as kids menus, high chairs and disabled access/loo.

Most of our vegetarian dishes are also vegan – this is because the majority of our menu is egg and dairy free. Dishes like vegetarian summer & spring rolls, tofu and mushroom pho are vegan with veggie or spicy stock. Some of our dishes contain fish sauce for seasoning so just be sure to mention you are vegan to a member of staff when ordering and ask for no fish sauce. Nuoc Cham which is served with all bun dishes contains fish sauce so ask for ginger soy.

Our vision is to bring traditional Asian Street food to belly’s in Bristol.

The vegan options directly from the menu are: from mains Tofu and Mushroom Salad box with a soy, lime and sesame dressing; and from sides: Miso Soup; Edamame beans; Vegan Kimbap, the Korean version of sushi flavoured with sesame and filled with veggies and tofu, which is made fresh every day, usually to order.

We can also easily ‘veganise’ 2 of the other mains on request; our Bibimbap which is rice, 7 seasoned vegetables and tofu and mushroom option served with our homemade traditional Korean gochujang sauce; and the Banh Mi which is the Vietnamese style baguette with veggies, pickles and the tofu and mushroom option. We also use a separate grill for cooking all the veg/vegan options.
