  2. I’ve been to the Veg night once – it was good but the vegan options were a bit limited.

The starter I had was fantastic – purple cauliflower tempura with chilli sauce. The main however was a bit of a disappointment – I had a vegan burger which turned out to be extremely dry. What annoyed me the most was that it came served on a rectangular plank of wood which, though it looks cool and rustic, isn’t practical for eating a dry veggie burger because as it fell apart in my hands the majority of it ended up in my lap. Not a great dining out experience!

The one thing I highly recommend River Cottage for is their salad – it tastes organic and home-grown, and I genuinely couldn’t believe how good it was. My only experience of it came from the side salad however, and I spent most of the evening regretting my decision not have a salad as a main.
