Kebele as a building and its garden is a dietary vegan space and supports the abolition of all non-human animal exploitation. Kebele promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals, and the environment.
The Kebele cafe has been providing affordable, delicious food to the local community since 1995. We believe in providing a space for people to get together and share food in a non-commercial environment. The café is run entirely by volunteers on a not-for-profit basis. Thanks to everyone who volunteers to keep us going!
In 2009 we renovated the kitchen to a professional standard and now it is a much easier place to work in! We have also renovated the storeroom that has a stock of staple ingredients that are clearly labeled and easy to find.
We believe in minimising our impact on the environment, so we try where possible to use donations of leftover fruit and vegetables from local retailers. We support other co-operatives and buy most of our dried produce from the Essential Foods co-op and local independent shops. We aim to buy and use organic ingredients where we can.
